Lassonde School of Engineering at York University

Symtech Innovations Ltd. is proud to announce that we have been selected by Laing O’Rourke and The Gillam Group to be part of the integrated delivery partnership that will design and build the new Lassonde School of Engineering at York University.

Opening in the fall of 2015, this iconic building with its “Cloud” design will be as radical on the outside as it is on the inside. The new 169,000-square-foot, five-storey building, will house Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering Departments in a range of academic space accommodation including state-of-the-art classrooms, research spaces, technical shops, laboratories, office spaces and student spaces.

Symtech’s role on this exciting fast-track project as the design-assist electrical contractor is multifold both in areas of responsibility and installation scope.

We will assist with preliminary planning relative to constructability, assessment of design details and optimization of construction methods through the extensive use of Building Information Modeling (BIM). BIM enables virtual construction of a facility prior to its actual physical construction, in order to reduce uncertainty, improve safety, solve problems, and simulate and analyze potential impacts.

While continuing to develop the 3-D model, Symtech shall procure and install all building systems during construction. These systems include but are not limited to lighting, security, fire alarm, public address, power distribution, integrated cabling, and emergency backup. We will assume full responsibility for the timely procurement and coordinated installation of all electrical equipment to ensure that this project is delivered on time and on budget.
