Symtech is pleased to announce it has been awarded the Electrical and Communications Contract for the UHN Princess Margaret Cancer Centre’s main floor transformation project.
Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is one of the Top 5 Cancer Research Centres in the world. The hospital has more than 3,000 staff and sees over 400,000 patient visits every year. This multi-phased project will see an improved patient experience from the moment you walk through the doors.
Blood collection labs will be revamped to include new collection stations, expanded waiting area, and reception area. The outpatient pharmacy will be relocated and expanded to include two automated prescription refill machines and expanded staff of pharmacists, a private consulting room, and nine patient stations. With the new information desk and patient library revamp, there will be a greater number of digital resources and articles for patients to reference. Patient waiting lounges are also being renovated to make patients and families more comfortable while waiting for their appointments.
Symtech will be responsible for all electrical systems such as power distribution upgrades, emergency power distribution, highly efficient LED lighting, lighting controls, fire alarm, security system, and network systems. This main floor transformation project is truly unique in that the hospital must remain functioning while construction activities take place seamlessly around patient areas. With such high focus, on maintaining hospital systems such as IPAC (Infection Prevention and Control); the construction team has constant interaction with UHN staff to ensure timelines and deliverables are met while exceeding the environment quality patients and families expect.
