The Sam Ibrahim Building (formerly known as Instructional Centre 2) is a state-of-the-art five-storey, 199,000 square foot educational facility which acts as a vibrant student hub for the students at the University of Toronto’s Scarborough Campus. The building is comprised of 23 technology-enhanced classrooms & lecture halls, 124 faculty & staff offices, and a variety of recreational spaces for students including welcome areas, a café, lounges, and informal collaboration spaces. The space centralizes several student service departments, such as UTSC’s Office of Student Experience and Wellbeing, Computer Science and Mathematics, the Academic Advising & Career Centre, AccessAbility Services, and Health & Wellness Centre.
This educational facility was constructed alongside our partners EllisDon and H.H. Angus & Associates Ltd., with energy efficient and future-focused designs at the center of this project. This building features sustainability targets that meet energy efficiency performance at a Toronto Green Standards level.
Symtech was responsible for supplying and installing all electrical systems for the building – power distribution, emergency power, high-efficient lighting, lighting controls, security system (CCTV and Access Control), fire alarm system, and life safety systems. Symtech was also responsible for supplying and installing all communication systems, as well as architectural lighting design.
