This 120,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility in Orillia is the perfect place for Hydro One’s Ontario Grid Control Centre. Hydro One is Ontario’s largest electricity transmission and distribution provider, with almost 1.4 million valued customers. This Grid Control Centre is one of the company’s biggest technology hubs, which ensures the reliable delivery of electricity to communities across all of Ontario. This location was selected by Hydro One to improve accessibility, reduce cost, and minimize the impact on employees working at their Barrie location.
Working alongside our partners EllisDon and Morrison Hershfield, we constructed an enormous facility equipped with an Integrated Operations Centre, a Provincial Warehouse, and a Regional Operations Centre. This project is a combination of a high-end data centre and a major control centre, where Hydro One controls the electrical grid in Ontario with the support of over 250 highly skilled employees.
Symtech’s scope of work for the project included supply and installation of all electrical systems – power distribution, emergency power, high-efficient lighting, lighting controls, security system (CCTV and Access Control), fire alarm system, and life safety systems. Symtech also supplied and installed all communication systems, including copper cabling, fibre infrastructure, wireless access points, and a DAS system.
