Hydro One

Symtech Innovations Ltd. is proud to announce that we have completed the job for Hydro One's new Ontario Grid Control Centre in Orillia as the Electrical contractor. Hydro One is Ontario's largest electricity transmission and distribution provider, with almost 1.4 million valued customers.

With the $150 million investment by Hydro One, this new Grid Control Centre in Orillia is expected to serve as one of the company's technology hubs, ensure the reliable delivery of electricity to communities across all of Ontario for years to come, and bring long-term economic value to Orillia and its local businesses. The location in Orillia was selected by Hydro One to improve accessibility, reduce cost, and minimize the impact on employees working at the existing grid control centre in Barrie.

Working alongside our partners – EllisDon and Morrison Hershfield, we built a new, state-of-the-art 120,000 sq/ft facility consisting of an Integrated Operations Centre, a Provincial Warehouse, and a Regional Operations Centre. It is a combination of a high-end data center and a major control center in which Hydro One can control the electrical grid in Ontario and move up to 250 highly skilled employees.

Symtech’s scope of work for the project included supply and installation of all electrical systems - power distribution, emergency power, high-efficient lighting, lighting controls, security system (CCTV and Access Control), fire alarm system, and life safety systems. Symtech also supplied and installed all communication systems, including copper cabling, fibre infrastructure, wireless access points, and a DAS system.
