General Contractor: EllisDon Construction
This cutting-edge 15-storey, 560,000 sq. ft. commercial development is an industry-leading high performance workspace. Located in the heart of Toronto’s King West neighborhood, Portland Commons was designed with a focus on employee wellness, technology, and sustainability, while offering customizable tenant and employee experiences. The building is equipped with private spaces, dedicated elevators, and several private terraces for corporate branding opportunities and events.
The Portland Commons project was completed in collaboration with our incredible partners – EllisDon, Carttera, Cavendish Management, and Mulvey & Banani International Inc. This collaborative development was designed by Sweeney & Co. Architects, to create a best-in-class high performance workplace with comfort, health and safety, and productivity as core features.
Portland Commons was designed with sustainability at its forefront – as the development was created with LEED Platinum Core & Shell certification, WiredScore Platinum certification, SmartScore certification, and WELL Gold certification in mind. Green roofs are put in place to aid in air purification, lower building energy costs, increase urban biodiversity, reduced stormwater runoff, and improved stream water quality.
Symtech was responsible for all electrical and ICAT work, such as smart (ACMS, VMS, intercom, lighting control) systems, life safety systems, emergency power systems, and network infrastructure. Our team was also responsible for assisting in design development and value engineering to minimize project risk and maximize the value for dollar expenditures.
