Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is one of the Top 5 Cancer Research Centres in the world. The hospital has more than 3,000 staff and sees over 400,000 patient visits ever year.
This multi-phased main floor transformation has significantly improved the patient experience. Patient waiting lounges were renovated to provide patients and families with additional comfort while they wait for their appointments. Blood collection labs were revamped to include new collection stations at the expanded waiting area and reception area. The outpatient pharmacy was relocated and expanded to include two automated prescription refill machines, a private consulting room, and nine patient stations. The added information desk and patient library revamp gives patients access to a greater number of digital resources and articles.
Symtech was responsible for all electrical systems, including power distribution upgrades, emergency power distribution, high efficient LED lighting, lighting controls, fire alarm, security system and network systems. This main floor transformation project was completed without any hospital closures, so construction activities had to take place seamlessly around patient areas. The construction team constantly consulted with UHN staff to ensure timelines and deliverables were met while exceeding the environment quality patients and families expect.
